DEMOCRACY AS A SPACE FOR RECONCILIATION AND CONSOLIDATION OF PEOPLE POWER
A VIEW FROM SEVERINO NGOENHA
Abstract
This article is the result of several concerns raised around conflicts and ethnic, social and political divergences in Africa and Mozambique in particular. This article intends to reflectively analyze how democracy can be a space for reconciliation between divergent groups, in addition to consolidating the power of the people. The article was developed from a critical reflection based on the thought of the Mozambican philosopher, Severino Elias Ngoenha. In order for people's power to be consolidated and lasting reconciliation to take effect, it is necessary for rulers and politicians to guarantee democratic principles, making a more participatory democracy that subordinates an equitable economy, political and societal choices, and an ethical-political attitude that resolves problems. problems and disputes based on dialogue and consensus among peoples. The reflection also finds that democracy is the privileged space for promoting reconciliation and consolidation of people's power. And for us to have peoples reconciled and democratically consolidated, there must be dialogue and consensus, a spirit of living-together between different groups without the involvement of individual interests to take advantage that make prevail and increase social inequalities associated with poor distribution of wealth and opportunities that give rise to intolerance, violence and social conflicts.
