Distance Education (EaD) has been reinvigorated in the last decade due to the emergence of new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) mediated by networked computers, more precisely with the popularization of the Internet. However, the ideal way to establish the teacher-student relationship is extremely important for the success of the teaching-learning process, considered relevant for good academic performance. To understand the role of the teacher in this context, it is essential to define the teaching role and establish the differences and/or complementarities between distance education and face-to-face teaching. Therefore, the present work aims to verify whether the competencies of the tutor-teacher and the face-to-face teacher are the same or differ depending on the teaching-learning environment chosen when working in a Higher Education Course in the distance learning and face-to-face modality at a public university. from the city of Rio de Janeiro. To carry out this research, idea association maps were used as an analysis technique. The subjects who participated in this investigation were face-to-face teachers and teacher-tutors who work, both in face-to-face and distance learning. The data collection instrument used in this research was the semi-structured interview and the analysis method was qualitative.
