Despite the growing number of organ donors in Brazil, the extent of organ transplants is still not very significant compared to national demand. The objective of this study was to explore the social representations of organ donation the population sample of the State of Santa Catarina. Method: a survey-based online questionnaire was used with semi-structured questions to ask participants about socio-demographic data, image and thinking about organ donation. Results: Of the 564 respondents most referred to as organ donor, with family science. Religion, gender and schooling were relevant categories for distinguishing between donor and non-donor groups, or undecided groups. The body was little mentioned and when mentioned appeared objectified and fragmented in the mechanistic idea of ??utility. The main image associated with organ donation was the word life and important. The social representations of the donation were associated with aspects of the affective dimension, linked to social and moral beliefs and values. Access to information on the organ donation process still seems to be a challenge in the social construction of the imaginary on the subject leading to the refusal of organ donation.
